I do recall several bizarre incidents from the 1968-1969 era there at the Airfield-the Fourth of July celebration for instance-when all Airfield traffic had to be re directed to VungTau-because some of the people on guard duty-as well as the guys off duty thought it would be a cool idea to fire off our weapons as a replacement for the fireworks we did not have-the officers found it prudent to hole up in thier bunkers and play cards all night-dont recall if anybody got disciplined for it!! Also -the time one of our own Cobras touched down on the metal airstrip-and accidently fired off a rocket-hitting the ammodump--and exploding a CONEX of small arms fire-after we all almost killed each other trying to get to a bunker-we were advised that it was friendly fire-we all agreed it didnt sound too friendly-the all night "short timer "parties-our barracks were near the airstrip-right behind the Service Club-and I recal all the great shows at the club-been thirty years-and I can still see the place in my mind!!!
