My old girlfriend saved the actual Thanksgiving menu from 1969 from Can Tho Army Air Base. There was a separate message from Creighton Abrams, the general who was in charge of American forces in Nam and a separate message from a Colonel James Skelton, who was "staff chaplain." The menu included: shrimp cocktail, crackers, roast turkey, turkey gravy, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, assorted crisp relishes, hot rolls with butter, fruit cake, mincemeat pie, pumpie pie with whipped topping, assorted nuts, assorted candies, assorted fresh fruits, iced tea with lemon and milk. Makes you sorta want to go back again for such a spread, right? NOT!!

I don't remember us ever "celebrating" an actual holiday over there, except for the Fourth of July, when it seems there was a lot of friendly fire in the compound.
