Been reading the articles on Olga's. It was a decent place. I got worms from it 2 times in my stay there. Being a civilian, we ate off the local economy. But there was one restaurant/bar that turned out to be really suckola. It was on the strip in BXM. As we did every WE, we hit the strip. Steam baths, drinks and other things. Well, came time to order food, we got fish. After dinner I went to the head. It was one of those, I guess you would say, uniheads, as it was a hole in the floor with a chain to pull to flush it. I was taking a whizz when I noticed something moving in the toilet water. I knew I wasn't that drunk, so looked around. I found a string attached to a nail and pulled on it. I pulled 4 fish out of the shitter! Needless to say, dinner was ruined. I went back and told my buds. We all left without paying and never went back there again. Not even for a short time or a drink.

I loved my stay there as a civilian. I spent a total of 3 years there in the Nam, one as a GI.

I got to meet the "people" of the country, not just the cashhoggies that catered to Merkins. From Danang on down to Dalat, Phan Rang, Vung Tau to Can Tho, the peoples attitudes towards us, myself and my brother, were all the same. They were very friendly, but yet let us know that they have had their problems for a few thousand years, that we would eventually leave and they would still have the same problems.

They seemed to be of the notion that they were doing ok if they could raise their crops and animals for their food and not be bothered by outsiders.

But, back to eating. Some of the best meals we ate were served to us at little huts out in the country side, neither party speaking the others language. Most were free to us, tho we always left a big tip. There was always the ole 33 beer.
