Additional to my last message. The War Wagon played a big role in getting suppy items which were hard to come since Aviation Units were low in the supply priority list. The unit's 1st Shirt sent it, along with several 2 1/2 tons, 5/4 tons, and jeeps,on a convoy to the supply depot at Long Bihn. We were not authorized any personnel items such as bunks, wall lockers, and the like. It would take forever thru normal supplie channels. And most of the EM had just moved from the Mekong Hotel, AKA: Delta Hotel, leaving most of those items back at the hotel. It was just a few days after Tet and the men needed a place to put their clothes and things even more. The trip to Saigon was an experience, but what took place at the depot was something else. While the War Wagon was concealed in the woods a couple hundred yards from the entrance of the guarded depot, we helped ourselves to everything the unit needed. Once all trucks were loaded, a loud blast of the trucks' horn signaled the Wagon's crew to cut loose with all they had. It sounded as if all hell was exploding; but the gunners were firing in the air away from the compound. The mini-gun's burps and the boom-boom-boom of the gradnade launcher did the trick. The Vietnam guards who would have checked our supply vouchers as we left took off flightand were not to be found as we drove out the gate headed to Can Tho. When we retutned, we were treated like heros. Is there anyone ot there that can add to this event?
