I've read a few comments on this site about "friendly fire" on our ammo dump at Can Tho. I can tell about the daytime incident during the fall of 1971 since I have experience and photos to back it up. I was in the avionics shop when some "newbee" tested the rocket armament on a C/16 snake, as I heard. Somehow he didn't disconnect the "cockpit" test function from the "fire rocket" function on the test set. Two rockets were punched off, one blasting away a foot deep chip off the concrete revetment. The other happened to bounce off the steel and concrete in such a way, I was told, that it went OVER the ammo dump. Anyway, everyone was all under the tables in our avionics shop. One buddy was in a C/16 loach just ahead of the launched rockets checking the radios. He told me that he went straight from the right seat over the left seat onto the tarmac to get out of the way, all without a scratch! Any other recollections?
