I was there that night, assigned to the 156th Avn (RR), which as we all know now, was an ASA unit flying DF missions against the Cong. Everyone went on alert and geared up. Basically we waited in the barracks until the all clear sounded. No mission or orders were discussed. The next day we heard that sappers had slit the throat of three newbies who had falled asleep out on the berm. They were all at one position. They then got in and tried to blow up some aircraft. The Cobras scrambled and two or three of their pilots were killed going to the revetments. The MP's and TOC reaction force engaged and killed some of the sappers. This was all we heard. Not much inofrmation was given out.
