Well, here's the old dog that pretty much started it all. When I got in-country there were 3 MPs, 6 operators, 6 pilots and 6 aircraft (all U-6 Beavers). We all lived in the hotel and the MPs had one .45 and 5 rounds of ammo. At that time it was the 156th Avn Det. and the 224th had not even been formed. Needless to say it was a wild and crazy time. Over the next 12 months things really changed. We expanded, became a Company and eventually moved to the airfield. I think we had 7 or 8 hootches, an orderly room and all of which were empty. One day we were a detachment and the next, at the stroke of a pen, we were a Company. For awhile we continued with no change in status except signing for the bldgs at the airfield. One day I got a call from the ATCO who asked me what I wanted to do with the fresh bodies waiting outside his door. The CO was flying so I told him to hold them there until he got back. That phone call opened the floodgates and then it all began. More later, if you want it.
