Sometime around Apr/May 1970 I happened to run into a guy in the Can Tho USO that I grew up with in my hometown. He was an Army Warrant Officer and flew a chopper. He told me that they had begun to cross into Cambodia to pursue the Viet Cong. This action was not authorized by the U.S. Congress and was always denied by Nixon. All I can say is that once they began to make unauthorized trips into Cambodia, enemy action and mortar attacks went significantly down in the Can Tho/Binh Thuy area. The warrant officer's name was Albert Olbeter, from New Kensington, PA. Did you know him????
