Bob,

I came across another one of your posts. One of the limitations of posting like this is if you don't do a new post it gets lost in the old traffic. I assume this is still Bob Mangsen, (let me know if I am using the wrong name)

You mentioned being with Andy Andersen the night the sappers came through the perimeter. I remember Andy being on the perimeter that night but I had forgotten you had been out there too. Andy (33G) and I were in the 318th ASA Bn together. We we were both levied from Germany to RVN. I was engaged to a girl (Patty) from south of Worcester at the time (still married to her) and she had her high school girl friend start writing him. When I left Can Tho I was stationed at Devens again and Andy stopped down there to see me after he got out of the army and went back to PA. He ended up marrying that girl (Joan) and they had a couple great kids. Unfortunately she became afflicted with brain cancer and died several years ago and we have lost contact with him. She was a great lady and they made a great couple.

Comments You guys pretty much remember it like I do. I was actually on perimeter guard that night. Even being out on the perimeter was pretty confusing. There were things blowing up behind us. One cobra actually appeared to be taking out one of the bunkers. I was told the VC had taken it, but we didn’t know it at the time. We had guys running out to our bunker for reinforcement. We couldn’t tell who it was. I remember we had light signals or some damn thing to challenge people approaching the bunker but that all seemed pretty useless and stupid at the time. (Actualy is always seemed kind of stupid) I remember that the guy I was with was named Andy Anderson (I think). He was the kind that you would think was kind of shaky in these circumstances. It turned out that he was much calmer than I was. It was a night I will never forget. It give you a lot more respect for the grunts that did this on a regular basis.
