As I have stated before I was with the 13th CAB from April 67 to April 68. (Don’t know why I had to repeat that but I did LOLOL) I believe that it was not too long before Tet 68 that the guys in the motor pool took a jeep and mounted a mini gun and a Honeywell hand cranked grenade launcher to it. The mini gun was mounted above the dash in front of the passenger seat (the passenger/gunner operated it) and an ammunition tray was mounted across the hood. A set of bicycle handlebars was used for the gun handle. The grenade launcher was mounted on a stand right behind the seats and the gunner stood up and was strapped in. During the attack on the perimeter during Tet it was used extensively to repeal Charlie. It got the nickname Delta Boom Boom. It also was rumored that Charlie had put a bounty on it. He needn’t have because some higher up brass had it disassemble because the guys in the motor pool were not combat troops. At least that’s the story we got. I saw a picture of a hand cranked grenade launcher in the weapons section of this site that reminded me of this. To make a long story longer let me go on. I’ll bet some of the guys that were at the West End of the compound perimeter remember it. Anyway those were the days.
