'Am still getting used to these discussion areas and "protocol". Have read the messages re: the explosion at the EM club and can remember that well (but was not in there that night). I do recall one lovely evening enjoying an outside movie...I believe it was on the southwest side of the EM club. They hung a sheet between two utility poles. A good buddy of mine (Jess "Cabby" Cabrera; whom I'm still trying to locate) and I were watching; seated on our own folding chairs we had brought from the hootch. We were very relaxed after quaffing a few beers and having the "excellent" pizza that the EM club sold. Of a sudden there were INCOMING!, .... the movie was immediately shut down and Cabby & I calmly picked up our chairs and with some choice words flung to the VC about interrupting our relaxed state, we headed for the hootch. I guess we figured no need to rush, if it's our time, so be it. Around some of the hootches were 55 drums filled with sand and set about 2' away from the walls for protection. As we were walking back, some fellow movie-goer (evidently a FNG) came running past at full speed and dived head-first into the "gap". I believe he survived. Our concern was if the beer at the hootch was cold. A like-scenario was repeated again, but this time in the main movie theatre and, instead of INCOMING!, this was (later) determined to be the ammo dump going off; which I guess you could say was OUTGOING! I'm sure a lot of you remember that! In regards to the posting about the SF club...I was at CanTho from Jul 69 to Jun 70, and the only time some of us attempted to go into the SF club, we were emphatically told "NO". (How cruel!) We had heard that they had good-looking bar girls, but we never saw them. Thanks for a great site Joe! "Gatz" ikegatz@AOL.com
