The only time I remember genuine incoming anywhere close in '69 was one night on guard duty in tower 1 ( by the main gate ) when some recoiless rifle rounds slammed into P.A.& E. which was not on the airfield. We reported what we saw over the field phone, but some LT. still had to come around an play "20 Questions". The night the ammo dump went up, I was short ( less than 2 weeks ) and walking from the radio bldg. and at the corner where the comm center was when the gunship accidently sent a rocket into the ammo dump. I remember saying " I'm too godamnned short for this!" and hightailing it back to the radio bldg.
