Probably the summer of 1966 Maverick had stayed on station alittle too long. My A/C determined that we wern't likely to make it back to the staging area. We put Maverick down just outside of a desselate Arvin outpost. An american came out and explained that if that aircraft was still there at night that his compound would surely get mortered and he would appreciate it if we could move it elsewhere. My pilot got on the radio and before too long Col.Maddox and the crew on "Green Delta 11" arrived with a 55 Gallon drum of JP-4 along with a "Hand Crank Type Pump". I have always appreciated that crew for getting us out of there.
