I served with your Uncle in Vietnam during my tour of duty (1968-1969). He was assigned to the communications platoon in Headquarters section of the 3rd Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry. HHT 3/11 ACR.

To the best of my knowledge, he was a Senior Radio Mechanic 31B20. He worked with a small group of fellow soldiers repairing radios and maintaining other communication equipment. Our unit base camp was located near Xuan Loc Vietnam, but we were "in the field" a lot and did not spend a great deal of time in base camp.

Carlos was a great guy. We laughed and had lots of good times working together, and I always enjoyed his company. He had a nickname of "peanut", don't know why or how he got it, but that is how he was known to the group. I have some photos of him in an album. If you want to see them, I can possibly scan them and send them to you.

I rotated back home in May of 1969, and was not present when Carlos was injured. I do remember that I found out about it a few months later. I cried at the loss of a friend and comrade and still think of him often. He was one of the very few casualities in our small communications group. As I understrand it, he was hit during a mortar or rocked attack on the HHT position while the unit was in the field.
