Why am I so angry about the war in Iraq? A fair question. I assure you that it is not because we are winning. We HAVE to win. No, it's because we didn't have to go in the first place and because the Army, which is the nearest thing I have to a hometown and extended family (I'm an Army brat. Dad was a full Colonel) is gradually being destroyed by the op-tempo and the lack of resources. Junior officers, even the West Pointers, are leaving in droves. They've already done two or three tours and see nothing but more of the same. Recruitment is down and that standown for recruiters for an ethics review came about because a high school journalist did a story where recruiters offered to fake his diploma and went to a head shop to get him a kit so he could pass the drug screening.

Still think we are winning? Top brass are telling reporters, off the record, that they fear this war will be lost.

I could go on, but you get the idea. I was a vclunteer for ASa and for Nam, BTW. I used to recommend the Army to young people as a career. But not now. Not now.
