Hello,

I was in the 6255th and 362 CSG assigned to Binh Thuy 6/6/65 to 6/6/66. I remember landing at the Binh Thuy strip with 3 C-130's getting out the back and taking defensive positions along the runway on each side. There was nothing there except brand new concrete runway and a mobil control tower. We wondered if we had landed at the right place. Then we realized what we were there for, build and activate this base. Maybe you were one of the 2-3 controllers assigned to the mobil tower. I would love to see that place again, what was built after we finished in June 66 was amazing from the photo's on this site. Remember eating B rats for months when we originally occupied the base when the first barracks were finished? I was just a 21 year old two striper, but it was an exciting time and the best year in the AF for me, also the last year.

Sometimes I would think that we were out there all alone with the Special forces team down at Cantho airfield with one Army Aviation company to protect their field. We had a few AP's and the Arvn plus us to defend Binh thuy, we were real vulnerable and knew it every night when the motars started coming in.
