Occasionally, we get enquiries on the War Stories! Bulletin Board concerning GIs who served south of the Song Hau Giang, but for the life of me, I can't figure out the order-of-battle down there. It sounds like a hodge-podge collection of small units from the Army, Navy (+ Marines?), and Air Force which were not assigned to a division or brigade. Who the hell was in charge down there anyway? MACV? And what did you guys do for infantry support? The only combat units in the area that I have ever heard of were a company of Special Forces, the 164th Aviation Group, the 1st/7th Armored Cavalry, the 632nd Security Police Squadron (USAF), and the 6th/77th Field Artillery (105 mm. towed Howitzers) and they left on 3/10/69. Not one single infantry battalion was ever stationed at Can Tho/Binh Thuy that I'm aware of. I was a Delta Mud Wrestler myself, but I was with the 2nd/47th/9th Inf. Div. north of the Song My Tho.
