During the TET offensive, my Father became gravely ill and I received a notice from the Red Cross. I showed it to my CO (Capt Harmon) and he arranged for me to use the MARS station, which and they set up a shortwave radio communication using a stateside telephone. I talked to my Dad for a total of 5 minutes (We both had to remember to say 'over' when finishing a sentence) Then there was a mortor attack and we ran into the Bunker. That was the last time I talked to my Dad, he died 4 days later.
