I was in Company A, 52nd Signal, in the Commcenter right on the airbase. They tried to make me an air courier, which lasted one day because I got airsick choking on all the exhaust fumes from the planes. I spent the next 25 months right in the Commcenter, the second year as the "trick chief" or Sgt in charge of one of the two 12-hour shifts. When I first got there, I remember Roper and Tomlin and a few others. I did pull duty for about a month at the commcenter they set up in a portable van at the IV Corps TOC center which was between downtown and Eakin Compound.

We used to watch movies in the open area behind the barracks where they had constructed a large plywood screen and the movie was projected on this screen. I remember watching "The Green Berets" in this area and it was weird watching the movie on the screen and seeing flares going off for real in the sky behind the screen and hearing and feeling the concussions from actual bombing raids that were taking place at the same time.
