In 1967 this Bank was The Bank of Indochina. The first occupents were the 581 Signal Company 1966. We occupied only two small rooms entered by a doorway in the right front cornor of the building. We needed more room so a few friend's and I pounded a hole into a wall which led us into a coradoor that sorronded the safe located in the center lowest level of the building. The coradoor was filled with putrid water comming up through the floor from the Mighty Mecong. Our W/O sent for some compound that would hydraulicly stop the leaks and we borrowed a submercible pump from the Navy, pounded a hole in the floor and started pumping. After a few weeks of pumping and drying out we had alot more area to operate in. We also killed about a thousand bats under the side walls of the star well comming into the front of the building. I believe we later used the store room underneith the stairs as a place to store paint. The 581 st was knowen as the Voice of the Delta. Later the 52nd Signal moved in. Probably around Sep-Oct 1966. The VC bombed us once and a Vietnamiese guard in front of the building killed a few VC that were about to through a few boomers. Oh' your probably wondering weather or not we broke into the safe. Yes. This probably makes us the Kelly's hero's of Viet Nam. Unfortunatly there was No Gold, only old furnature. I got an old brass bed and wardrobe out of the deal. Hope you find this story intresting, it is all true to the best of my recolection, about an old Bank that is now the State Bank OF Viet Nam Cantho Branch. I hope someday to see more pictures that were taken inside and out.
