I don't mean to turn this into a personal forum, buta piece of history is now gone. My uncle, Clarence Benton Ponder passed away on March 2nd. Uncle Clarence was a World War II veteran and went on to retire from the U.S. Army. He had the distinction of being the last bugler in the U.S. Army. All songs formerly played by buglers are now played by trumpet.

After his retirement, during the Vietnam War, he traveled all over the state of Alabama when requested by families of those killed in Viet Nam to play Taps at their funerals. He received acknowledgement several times for his action, but always said that his greatest honor was being asked to play Taps at the dedication of the Viet Nam Memorial. So, in his own way, he served in our war, also.

He will be missed.
