I pulled up my DA Form66 and lets see, I was on my second tour in the nam when I took over as OIC of the Can Tho Commcnter in approximately Oct or Nov of 1968 (think I replaced Roy Sayer who was busy building the autosevocom right outside and getting it up and running at the time). The NCOIC at that time was a SFC Hudson, and I spent the entire year as the OIC of that communications center which had two MODE V terminals (low speed 100wpm klienshmidts) connected to the Mode V terminals which gave us limited access to the PhuLam Switch. This of course was all torn tape operation and we had one MAPU (Multiple Address Processing Unit) in other words we made tapes for relay to multiple points via our circuits to units in the delta. We had no card capability at all during this tour. I left the 52nd in about November 1968. I was only gone for about 60 days when I was returned for another tour with them, and initially I was assigned to be the site commander at Sa Dec. This lasted for a few months and I was once again pulled back to Can Tho where I took over as OIC of the Commcenter and also the Autosevocom facility. Then due to some problems downtown, was also assigned to oversee the Downtown facililty too. Again, we only had MODE V terminals there at the Airfield communications center during this tour also. I cannot remember names all that well, but I remember I again had a very fine NCOIC and crew in the communications center and therefore, I didnt really have to spend too much time there, mostly with the autosevocom and downtown communications centers. Think I had a WO1 or 2 Ollie Jean Coe downtown also. and all they had down there was the torn tape teminals back to the relay at the commcenter at the airfield. Then I think I left there 12 months later..assume so anyway, since I I had full tours all three times I was in country. But again, during all the time I was there, we never had card capabilities at all that I remember, I do remember some engineers (Jim Stamm) comes to mind who came in to survey for some DSTE terminals one time (I late worked with JIm in Korea where he was a GS12 civilian in USFK J-6 while I was there and we even talked about that visit..anyway, just what I remember of the place..
