Even though the 34th Engr. Gp. had units near Binh Thuy they were removed from the town proper. I was with HHC of the 34th at Binh Thuy in 1968-69 and was part of the move from Vung Tau down to the Delta. When we got there at Christmas of '68, the Navy had their base on the river and some barracks across the road. The 29th Evac. was also there. We stayed in the navy barracks until our own quarters were up. Over time, the area became mope and more populated. The 35th Engr. Bn. (CBT) was between us and the jungle. There was a transportation company that moved in some time later and I only know that because someone who was there later than me told me so. At the time I was there 9/68-11/69 if a person stood in the HHC compound and looked toward Can Tho, about 6 kliks away, there was nothing to see. To the right would have been the 35th, to the left there was nothing between us and the 29th Evac., behind us was the airfield, although we couldn't see it distinctly.
