I was a firefighter at Can tho airfield from May 67-68. I remember the Jan 31-68 attack very well. I was with the 59th Engineer Detachment and we also had the 66th Engineer Detachment assigned with us as also a couple of other units. We traveled from Ft. Meede Md. by ship via Oakland Army terminal. I cannot remember but I believe we had a large number of firefighters on the field. I have pictures of the bad guys inside the perimeter with foam on them. Our count was ten dead and three wounded and numbers of weapons and medical supplies found on the bodies. I believe it was the fuel and amno area very close to the pow compond. We did have a number of attacks in Jan. and one big one in Feb. Yes the 5th Special Forces Commander Col. Faultenhammer presented all of us a letter which never showed up in our file. I kept my copy and recently put it in a frame.I cannot remember much after 37 years of what went on in Viet Nam.
