Dear Veteran, I have so many mixed feelings about Viet Nam. I was a true "patriot", in support of my country. I am now 50 years old looking back. I have a 17 year old son, who is so against that war. I understand why I guess. But how do you explain the men and women that risked their lives and lost their lives, and maybe had doubts but did it anyway. It is so hard. The hardest thing to get across is that maybe they believed in the war or maybe they didn't, but they went anyway. My son has respect for those that fought, but doesn't understand why. I think that the history being taught leaves something out. I was in college, writing to an army soldier. One day I got a letter from his friend that he was killed in action. I have guilt that, 30+ years letter I don't remember his name. When my son went to D.C. I asked him to trace a name from the Memorial for me. It is important to remember and I forgot a name. I was young. That time brings so much saddness and emotion still. Bless those that fought and came home and those that fought and died. I always think that as a country we let you down.

Sincerely, Barbara
