I reenlisted in the Army in Jan. 65 after spending my first three years with the 50th at Ft. Bragg. I was sent to Co.D 41st Sig. Bn. at Ft. lewis, Wash. around April of that years the unit received orders for Vietnam, half flew and half went by ship, I flew it took four days flying in a C130, everytime we landed it broke down, two days in Hawaii wasn't bad but the half a day at Wake Island was to long then a day in the Phillipines. Finally we arrived in Vung Tau, I'll never forget smelling and feeling Vietnam for the first time. I believe we were the only military presence in Vung Tau at that time, boy things changed fast, Vung tau became the RR center for the country later. Anyway we were assigned to an over grown old monistary located at Back beach, two monks still lived there on the top floor, we had to clean out all the growth and cut a perimiter around the plce. I remmember one we were relaxing on the beach when some mp's came up and told us that the Marines were about to make a landing and we had to clear off the beach, so we all sat up on the hill wwatching the movie cameras roll and the Marines make their landing we all got a good laugh out of that. Several days later I was reassigned to the 232nd Sig. Co. in BienHoa and I spent the better part of the next two years leading convoys and running supply all over the country. After going back to the states for awhile I returned to Vietnam, this time to the 1st Log. Cmd. 593rd LSA-2 in Tuy Hoa then to MACV Adv. Tm. 111 in DaNang where I cut my last tour short and went home for the last time. Does anyone else remmember the flight over in 65? and how we had to wear full combat gear at the airport in Hawaii.
