Served from Apr 65 to Mar 66. When I first arrived in Bien Hoa I lived in a nice compound where you had a mess hall with a menu and were served by waitresses. Then the build up started and we were moved to a sort of villa near the downtown area. I was a SP4 at that time. I hung out a bar downtown but can not remember the name. I worked in the communication center on the air base near the micro wave tower.
I was then transferred to Duc Hoa and lived in the old base just off from where the new compound was built. In the old place I worked in a 2 ½ ton van that was transformed into the communications center. It was near the front gate. After the new compound was built we moved into same fairly nice digs. I was promoted to sergeant their.
After leaving Vietnam I was assigned to Stu Co P USASESCS at Fort Gordon. I taught typing and Communication Center Operations for about one year and then got my discharge after 6 years in the Army. I had also spent 2 years in Germany for the 7th Army. I was with the following units: 1st Sig Bn, 97th Sig Bn. 596th Sig Co at Ft Chaffee, 28th Arty Gp Selfridge AFB Mich.
