I was over there the same time as you, it appears. I remember both incidents that you speak of, plus another one that was probably the precurser to the numerous aircraft that were lost to 211 & 311.
I, along with two other marines, was pulling a TACAN out of one of the "birds" located to the rear of the 211 flight line next to the fuel pit on the west side of the flight line close to the runways. A rocket impacted in the fuel pit approximately 20 to 30 feet from us. I believe the enemy was sighting in for the eventual distruction to that area of the flight line. If I'm not mistaken, that occurred in June of 1969.
