In your CanTho-rvn.org site, you have a history of the 164th CAG. Near the end of the history, you recount the final shootdown of CH-47 supporting the JMC 3 miles south of An Loc, RVN. You indicated the injury to the pilot and the crew chief.

My brother was that crew chief, SP/5 James Leland Scroggins. You may not realize that he was transferred to Okinawa, Japan to the burns unit where he died on 23 Feb 1973 from his injuries. About 2 weeks prior to his shootdown, Jim was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf clusters for saving his CH-47 that was attacked with a SA-7 missile. According to his commendation, Jim saw the launch and quickly grabbed and fired a flare out of the helicopter distracting the missile and saving the CH-47 and all aboard.

His name is on The Wall and my family has been attempting to find out more about either of these incidents and his life in Viet Nam. If you or anyone has information, please contact me by email at: jerry_scroggins@yahoo.com or by phone at 618.580.8220. His family misses him and would like to know more about his tours in country.
