I was at Soc Trang Airfield from mid-Feb '68 til mid-Feb'69, working for the 3 Signal Detachments that supported the 121st and 336th Assault Helo Co's. I remember 2 of the Pathfinders at Soc Trang: a black kid named Jackson who was wounded with shrapnel (elbow?) and shipped home; the other was a white dude from St Louis (?) named Weidman or Wiedman. I also remmeber that some "genius" provided the Pathfinders with a bright-yellow Jeep that got airlifted to their AO's. Probably the same genius thought up and actually had us Avionics guys wear bright-orange baseball caps on the flight-line, until some visiting general saw us and said "What asshole thought THAT up?" and we no longer wore fluorescent orange hats. The Pathfinder's trailer was near the 121's hangar, as I recall. And if you were at Soc Trang, you'll remember the PX trailer down by the little swimming pool, and the Delta's only traffic light down by the chapel. --Spec4 Pat Dywer, 257 Sig Det
